Hello, I've Been On The Depo Shot For Almost A

Hello, I've been on the depo shot for almost a year now with no period at all, not even spotting. About two days ago there was some spotting but it wasn't a big deal, but now it's really heavy and I'm having bad cramps. Is it normal that after so long of having zero bleeding on the shot that you finally have your period?
