Hello, My Brother Started With Abdominal Distention A Couple Months

Hello,
My brother started with abdominal distention a couple months ago and the doctors initially treated as constipation however after additional blood work and ultrasound they had him see a GI specialist- eventually determined that this was actually ascites and he required a paracentesis. He also was put on spironalatone and lasix. He has not required further drainage however he lost at least 40 pounds without trying. The doctors have determined that this is alcohol induced cirrhosis. I can not wrap my head around pointing right to alcohol without making sure that there is not another cause. He definitely drank in his 20 & 30's but over the past 25 years he barely drinks. He stopped drinking any alcohol when the doctor's told him to a few months ago.
He has abnormal labs and I feel like something is being missed. His platelets are 46, his ferritin level is 821, he is a positive carrier for hemochromcytosis disease but the other two labs were negative.
His ALT normalized but AST is 95, T bili5.4, AFP is 17, and aspiration from ascites was abundant reactive mesothelioma cells. His doctor outright told be that I was a "cancer phobic" but i feel like we could be missing a blood disorder or cancer process contributing to his current status. Is it possible to have hemochromatosis even if all three labs aren't positive?
