Hello, My fiance was just diagnosed with oral thrush yesterday and was prescribed Nystatin (liquid) to take every 6 hours for 6 days. Previously he had been taking prescription lamisil (oral) for a couple of fungal infections in his nails. He has always been susceptible to fungal infections and does not have an immune system compromise to our knowledge. Here is some background....He was still taking the Rx Lamisil as of last week, then stopped it on Thursday because he was going to be drinking (heavily) at his bachelor party over the weekend. He was at a campsite for 3 days, drinking and not brushing teeth. On Monday, he complained of generally feeling "off", loss of appetite and his lips were chapped. He received the thrush diagnosis yesterday at an urgent care facility, and is now saying his throat is sore. That being said, here are my questions. Are there negative effects of stopping the Rx Lamisil? Could consuming large amount of alcohol, sharing cups of beer and not brushing teeth bring about Thrush? Would combining the Rx Lamisil and the Nystatin be a bad idea? In light of the sore/possibly swollen throat, what should his next step be? Thank you for your help.
