Hello, My Husband Is Currently Taking Welchol For High Cholesterol.

Hello,
My husband is currently taking Welchol for high cholesterol. This is the only medication that he has taken (per his doctor's recommendation) since he has stopped taking the statin drugs. These medications caused him to lose muscle mass so his doctor switched him from the statins to Welchol. The problem is that it is so very expensive even with insurance. Is Colestipol a statin drug? The name indicates that it is not, but wanted to make sure. Of course he will consult with his doctor the next time he goes in December, but since he is changing insurance plans for 2017 we wanted to check out the possibility of him changing his medication and hopefully not having to pay so much. Thank you for your comments.
