Hello. My sister is in the hospital and about to have a baby. It's come to my attention that I need to be updated on my Tdap shot, as the immunization from Pertussis is especially important for people who are going to be around a baby. The last immunization under that section on my Immunization Record was a Td booster in 2005 (I'm 27). Before that, the last immunization under that section was in 1994, which I would have been 5 years old for. From what I've read online, you receive the adult Tdap shot once per lifetime, and then Td boosters every 10 years, but based on the information I have on my record it looks like I might not have received the adult Tdap shot at all yet. None of the Urgent Care Centers would do the shot update today unless it was for an Employer, so I plan on getting the shot from my family doctor tomorrow. My question is, would I be safe to go see my sister, her husband, and the baby tonight without posing any health risks to either the baby or myself? I don't intend on holding the baby for the time being, so I would just be in the same room as him. Would this be safe to avoid any potential Pertussis issues, or should I not even be in the same room as the baby until the shot's had a chance to sink in? Thanks for any help!
