Hello. Question is: Can an 11-yr-old become symptomatic from having (perhaps dormant) HSV-2 contracted from me (mom) during birth and not have had definable symptoms before 11 years of age?
HISTORY: My now-11-yr-old son was born at 36 weeks, traumatic birth, and had a cut across his face due to the wrong forceps being used and him going transverse, desats, he was kept in NICU for a week. Apgars were 5-7-7. I was GBS positive, on IV, two epis.
Then when he was about 1 1/2, 2, he had a rash/blister on his thigh. Showed my sister-in-law, an ED doc, who said, That looks like herpes, but it can't be. My son often seemed to stare off, like a mini seizure was going on... Fast-forward to today. Back in July 2015, had a dime-size drop of blood come out of his penis after going to the bathroom. Pediatrician checked urine and sent to lab. Looks ok. Had the same thing happen this Sept. Happened again on this past Sun, 10/18/15, but also had headache and stomachache. Yesterday after going to the bathroom, again a drop of blood from the penis, and today he is complaining of inner thigh/groin pain and was on his way to soccer and stood up said, OMG, the right groin area hurts, like a stinging. Okay. Is there any chance he could have gotten HSV-2 when coming through the birth canal if I had open sores and he had a wide open cut on his cheek area? I had PROM but they did the fern test and the dr said it was negative. I knew I ruptured. Then went back the next day and met him at the hospital, and, sure enough, was ruptured. Thanks so much!!
