Hello: Today My MRI Arthrogram Results Confirmed A Labral Tear

Hello:

Today my MRI arthrogram results confirmed a labral tear (left hip). I am very physically active (yoga, hiking on average 70 km's per week), swimming, cycling, trail running... The hip pain has been steadily increasing this past few years to the point where it is now difficult to hike up hills, stand from sitting, sit or stand for more than 15 minutes without significant increase in pain levels. I had a cortisone injection into the joint 2 months ago with relief of the chronic ache, but not most of the other symptoms and they have fully returned now. I am 45 and I was told by my rehab specialist today that there is only one surgeon in my area who does this up and coming surgery and the cut off age is 35 until 60 (for a hip replacement); and, he is recommending I do another injection in a month that includes viscosupplementarion). I am reluctant to continue with the injections because they mask pain levels and I cannot tell if I am doing further damage. And it sounds like if I do and end up even more immobile, I am stuck with that situation until I am 60. I have two questions: does this seem reasonable to wait so long to repair something that is now affecting my quality of life so significantly for so many years and is there merit to not going ahead with the injections given my level of activity and the risk for further injury? I live in Hamilton Ontario. Thanks so much for any assistance you can provide.
