Hello, A Little More Than A Week Ago, Both Of

Hello, a little more than a week ago, both of my ears had developed infections. One of them went away (sort of, I still have the occasional pain throb here and there) recently, while the other is still infected. I noticed both of my ears have been giving off a sweet sort of smell since the infection (that probably sounds really weird, but the smell is pretty similar to, I want to say, a peanut butter sort of smell?). I have not been to a doctor since there is no unbearable pain and I feel as if a trip is not really needed, but I don't know. Is this how all ear infections get?
