Hello Doctor, I Have Been Diagnosed With Leukoplakia By A

Hello doctor, I have been diagnosed with leukoplakia by a dentist ..I noticed this rough patch about 2 months back with my tongue and looked it for in the mirror ,it was just where my lips end in the inside of cheek, it was a small bruise or scar like a bit red and had a very few whìte dots over it ..no pain or anything in it just felt weird when touched with the tongue .. I used to smoke about 7_8 cigarettes a day earlier for around 6 years but since I noticed this I have stopped ..I have been taking becousules and the patch is getting a bit smoother ..what are the chances of this to turn into cancer and should I go to any other doctor for it ?? How much time does it takes to go away??? Thanks doctor.
