Hello, For Just Over A Week Now I've Had A

Hello, for just over a week now I've had a swollen, very red and painful part of my gum.
It's too far back for me to see but a friend who could see a little of it said it looks very red with maybe some dark red patches.
To me it feels very lumpy and deters me from eating, drinking, smiling, talking, brushing my teeth
Basically moving my face in any way, shape or form.
I'm not sure whether to go to my gp or just wait for it to go
