Hello My Boyfriend Broke His Leg & Had Surgery And

Hello my boyfriend broke his leg & had surgery and ide say a month later there is a Huge lump exactly where he broke it , what does this mean? and the hospital he got surgery at isn't the best rated place they make a lot of mistakes in just the simple things so could it just be normal? or could it have been a mistake on the doctors?
