Hello, My Father Suffers From Nearly 15+ Years Of Nerve

Hello, my father suffers from nearly 15+ years of nerve ending pain due to shingles. He is currently taking 300mg of Gabapentin twice daily, he is unable to tolerate higher dosage amounts as he becomes extremely lethargic and has difficulty walking when his dosages are increased. He is under hospice care and they are seeking to put him on Meloxicam and tramodal which are arthritic meds
and he does not have arthritis. Are there risk factors or concerns we should be aware of for their wanting to use either of the alternate drugs to help with his pain beside the obvious of the tramodal being an opiod?
