Hello, My Son Is Getting His Ears Pinned Back Because

Hello, my son is getting his ears pinned back because it is sticking out. What will happen if he smoke cigarettes or a cigar or weed after surgery? I'm not sure my son smokes but I just want to make sure if he does, I won't need to worry about it effecting him.
