Hello, Which Inhaler Is To Be Used Every Day, And

Hello, which inhaler is to be used every day, and which when there is a cough present? We have Ventolin and Becotide and an air chamber for our four year old. He just has seasonal asthma.( Sept/oct to March /April) Last year I used the blue inhaler( ventolin) every day( two puffs twice daily) but I now realise that I was supposed to use the brown inhaler ( becotide) every day and only the ventolin in conjunction with the becotide when there was a cough present. Is this correct? Could my mistake have affected my child's health?
