Hi, Hb1ac Was 7.8 And Doctor Suggested Glycomet SR 500

Hi,
Hb1ac was 7.8 and doctor suggested Glycomet SR 500 twice daily, morning and evening. Again after 1.5 month Hb1ac was 6.8 and doctor suggested Glycomet SR 500 three dose daily, morning, afternoon and evening. Is there any chance to get this reduced, by changing the lifestyle and food. By exercising and with food control.
Please advise.
