Hi, I Am 55 Years Old And Received Results Cholesterol

Hi, I am 55 years old and received results cholesterol and am concerned. LDL 169, HDL 59 Tri 155, and overall 259. I eat well for the most part, although I do consume sugar when stressed (candy and icecream a couple of times per week, I am 5'5 134 lbs but much fat on my stomach which I am trying to reduce. I do not wish to go on meds yet but instead try to remove on my own. My parents are both deceased from heart related (age 70 and 78) so is my decision to try to quit sugar totally and drop 10 lbs of fat a good idea or should I start meds right away
