Hi, I am 55 yrs. old and have been a diabetic for 23 yrs. My diabeties is not well controlled at this time. My A1C is been as high as 12.4 but it is down to 8.2.
My question has to do with a scheduled hysterectomy on Jan. 22nd. I have had a feeling of heaviness in my vaginal area (bladder) and have had 3 UTI's in 2 months. Only symptoms I have had are the heaviness, bloated feeling, cloudy sweet smelling urine and pain/cramps in my back and right shoulder. No burning, stinging, urgency to urinate or feeling like I am not emptying my bladder. My Doc. is concerned that my risks are higher of having a problem with my bladder during the surgery due to my 3 C-sections. I too am concerned but mostly because of the reoccurring UTI's. I should also mention that my need for the hysto is due to very heavy bleeding and clotting from my monthly periods (yes, I am 55 and still have periods regularly) Anemia, fibroid tumors and PCOS. Do you think the reason for the UTI's should be checked out before the surgery or have the surgery then find out the reason for the UTI's if they continue after surgery?
