Hi I Am Getting All Of My Top Teeth Pulled

Hi I am getting all of my top teeth pulled and my dentist is not an oral surgeon so he gave me a prescription for valium 5 mg.He told me to take 1 the night before and 1 in the morning and 1 (i think when I get there).When I was talking to him last time I was there he told me to take 7 all together.The prescription is made out for 8 5 mg valium.That seems like a lot.I have to get new scrips because I cancelled my last appt. and rescheduled so they expired so I will ask him again but that seemed like too much.The pharmacist thought so too.I am female 55 years of age and weigh about 130.Thank you.
