Hi, I Had A Mallet Finger Several Months Ago And

Hi, I had a mallet finger several months ago and the doctor told me to wear a splint for 6-8 weeks. It was not a fracture (no bone fragments).I did not wear it for the entire time, and I feel like my finger did not properly heal. It also clicks and locks frequently. Can it still be healed? Will I require surgery?
