Hi I Have A Pain In The Left Side Of

Hi I have a pain in the left side of my mouth where the gum meets the check on the lower side. It just began today and it feels almost like a tear with a very sharp pain when I touch it with my tongue. Feeling from the outside of the cheek it feels like some slight swelling has begun as well. I haven't yet had my wisdom teeth removed and I'm an occasional smoker if that helps. I'm setting up a dentist appointment for this tomorrow, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't anything that needed to be taken care at the moment.
