Hi, I have a rare genetic condition called alkaptonuria, an inborn error of metabolism. After open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve, my doctor prescribed lexapro. After five days of half dosage, I had angioendema and life threatening respiratory failure, resulting in the ER and three days in ICU. I have just been prescribed with Valsartan (160mg) and one of the common side effects seems to be angioedema. I also take hydrochlorathyizide (50 mg), vitamin D (2000IU), baby aspirin, and synthroid (.05mg). Is valsartan a good choice for me for hypertension? Hypertension is new to my condition and my cardiologist has prescribed the medication. Thank you.
