Hi, I Have A Small Hole On The Left Side

Hi, I have a small hole on the left side of my tongue about halfway back. The area around it is slightly white. I noticed it about 5 nights ago l. It started as a painful white lump that looked kind of like dead skin. The next day it had went down quite a bit and I could only feel it with my finger tip. Most of the pain had went away as well and it doesn't really hurt anymore but that's when I notices the small hole. Should I be concerned? I use smokeless tobacco on a daily basis but have slacked down a bit ever since it appeared.
