Hi I Have Chronic Pain Now 5 Years After Surgery

Hi I have chronic pain now 5 years after surgery am told it's most probably due to the ilioinguinal nerve becoming involved with scar tissue please could you tell what causes this? How does it happen? And what are the possible solutions as the surgeon I've seen has said there nothing he can do surgically because the risk of damage is to high, I can't seem to get any straight answers please can you help
