Hi,
I have had pain during sex, specifically when penetration touches the cervix in deep, and then light bleeding after sex for a few months. Along with aches in the middle of my tummy low down. I went to doctors who said I had cervix ectropian however a particular area was hyper inflamed and bleeding. She referred me to a gynaecologist for a colposcopy. I went for this appointment and the consultant had a look, the doctor was right I have cervix ectropian but he said this is unlikely to cause my pain and bleeding and concluded that I infact most likely have endometriosis which is the cause of my symptoms. He suggested I go on a contraception pill for 3 months as this will settle the symptoms of this and I am due a follow up appointment in 3 months.
My issue is that when I look into ectropian online I find that although common it often doesn't bother people but it can cause pain during sex, and bleeding after so a simple treatment may be required to sort it out. I also read that being on the pill can cause it and make it worse and by coming off the pill your symptoms will most likely clear up. Well I'm not currently on the pill but my gynaecologist suggested I go on it for the endometriosis he thinks I have. I'm confused as to why he didn't just suggest we treat the ectropian which he knows I have as that is a likely cause for my symptoms and consider endometriosis if treating the ectropian doesn't work? I'm also concerned going on the pill will make the ectropian worse.
Can someone give me advice as to what i should do? Should I just bear with the consultant and go on the pill risking making my symptoms worse?
Thanks in advance!
