Hi I Lit My Log Burner And Didn't Notice That

I lit my log burner and didn't notice that there was a pair of wellies touching the burner! They have burnt and the smell was quite strong but there was no smoke as such just the smell! I had my grandsons with me of which one is 2 and the other 3! I'm worried now that although there wasn't any smoke was the smell of them burning just as harmful? They were burning for about an hour!
