Hi. I'm a 20 year old female, clinically diagnosed with Health Anxiety. I am currently in psychological and psychiatric treatment for it.
For the past 2+ years, I have had sporadic pains on the right side of my abdomen, close to my belly button. At first, the pain felt superficial, closer to the skin, but still inside the body. These days, it feels more like a shooting pain that goes from the right side of my bellybutton straight to what feels like my right kidney. It lasts a few seconds and then goes away. I have it maybe once or twice a day, sometimes less, sometimes more.
Only recently have I been to a gastroenterologist. She solicited transglutaminase and lactose tolerance tests. She also solicited an abdominal ultrasound, plus several other blood tests. All of the tests came back normal, including the ultrasound. I asked the doctor if something serioud could be the underlying cause of the pain, and she said that based on my age and family history, it would be highly unlikely. She suggested pain medication, but I said it's not the pain itself that bothers me, but the possible causes. So we left it at that.
I thought maybe the pain was psychosomatic, which wouldn't be a stretch for me, considering I have several unexplained medical symptoms. However, since the pain hasn't stopped even after the test results came back normal, I'm thinking maybe not. The pain is still the same.
What could be the underlying causes for this? Should I pursue further medical investigation? Should I get a CT scan or some other type of test? I really want to know what is causing this.
