Hi. I've had re-occuring staph infections, 3 times in the last 5 months, always on my nose. I get head pain, light fever, general feelings of having a flu. My doctor would like to blame the fact that I work in a pet shop (birds, fish, small animals), but I've been in the same location for over 4 years, and my first Staph infection started in September 2015. I have good hygiene, I wash my hands, I consciously work hard to not touch my face. My only health issue is that I was diagnosed with lymphedema of the lower extremities about 5 years ago, presumably primary, but no family history. I understand that staph is everywhere and most everyone carries it, but I don't understand why I am suddenly so susceptible to break-outs. On all occasions I have been prescribed Mupirocin gel for topical treatment and an oral treatment (I do not remember the name, but it is the more mild option, taken 4 x daily for 7 days). I have lived the last 5 years accepting my mysterious lymphedema, but I need to understand why I am constantly getting attacked by Staph.
