Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, Just over a week and a half ago my ear started hurting. It felt muffled for a while then the pain got pretty bad so I went to a doctor. They said it looked infected but could not see the eardrum. They thought it was a piece of sand in the way. They prescribed amoxicillin 500mg and some ciprodex drops but it got worse the following few days. I went back and another doctor said it was fungal and the "sand" was fungus but by this time it had grown quite a bit. They flushed a lot of debris out and said to finish the amoxicillin but start taking anti fungal drops instead. The pain went away but it still felt weird. I went back yesterday and after flushing some more debris out, the doctor could see that my eardrum was perforated. He prescribed me with ciprofloxacin 500mg tablets and said to use the ciprodex drops, not the anti fungal. The drops hurt, i'm guessing due to the eardrum so i haven't been using them. I just started the ciprofloxacin oral tablets though. I no longer have pain but don't want it to cause more havoc. I'm flying to Russia tomorrow for a week and will hopefully be able to get to an ENT upon arrival but i was just wondering if this treatment sounds good? should I still use the drops anyway? Should I be worried about more fungal growth? Also, could all these medicines be clashing making it worse? Thanks!
