Hi, My 5 Yr Old Son Has Enlarged Tonsils Resulting

Hi,
My 5 yr old son has enlarged tonsils resulting in fairly pronounced apnea but not prone to infections/tonsillitis. We are having them removed along with adenoids. The question is are there any long term (>6 years) studies regarding the relative effectiveness of tonsillotomy vs tonsillectomy? I understand the short term benefits but concerned about re-growth. Any guidance appreciated.
