Hi, My 8 Year Old Son Look Like What Might

Hi, My 8 year old son look like what might be hives . They started on his face and around his ears and now it on his arms, hands, and back. I notice them after he came back from a field trip at the zoo. I tryed giving him Benadryl but it did not help. What could this be.
