Hi, My Dad Is 67 Years Old, In Great Shape,

Hi, My Dad is 67 years old, in great shape, plays tennis twice a week. Not overweight. He was involved in a minor car accident about 3 months ago. his car was at a stop at a traffic light when another car hit him from behind. Not at tremendous speed, damages were minor on my dads car ( small suv) more important on the offender vehicle ( probably smaller). Anyway, After 2 weeks he started suffering pain in his hips and subsequently in his shoulders. He doesn't think that the pain is anyway related to the accident ( becaus eof the 2 weeks laps) by I firmly do.
An impact from behind seems to me the logical explanation for sudden unexplained pain in those part of the body where the impact might have caused major sudden pressure. At 67 it could be very harmful.
About 40 days ago after inspecting the x-rays he had some laser therapy on his back ( on the spine I assume). Doctor believed that the cause of his pain was in his back. That didn't help.
Is there any negative side effect about this procedure? Things seems to have gotten worse after that.
The pain is not subsiding and his morale is now really low. All basic movements are affected and he seems to be spiraling downhill very quickly. His demeanor is not positive and we are all getting very concerned.
If not caused by the accident, is there any other common factor that could explain such symptoms?
He always complained about some groin pain but due to his tennis commitments it was more a nuisance than anything else. Other than that, quite healthy. Cholesterol a little bit on the high side, his body a bit stiff overall,
but mentally very alert and energetic. Suffers from some sort of cardio aritmia ( irregular hear beats) and he takes tablet to make the blood thinner.
At present he is also taking some oppiaceum tablets to manage the pain ( prescribed by the doctor)
I cant think of anything else.
Tomorrow is meeting with the Orthopedic who will assess the latest set of x-rays and MRI scan.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Thank you,

Matteo
