Hi, My Sister Was Recently Diagnosed With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

Hi,

My sister was recently diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. Is it genetic? Should I get tested? I recently had a complete pelvic ultrasound because I had left pelvic and back pain with blood in urine. Below are my results.

FINDINGS:

UTERUS: Anteverted and normal in size measuring 7.3 cm in total length, 5.5 x 3.5 x 5.6 cm for a volume of 56 ml excluding the cervix. The endometrium is normal in appearance and thickness at 4.9 mm. No fibroids are identified.

OVARIES: Normal in size measuring 3.1 x 1.1 x 2.2 cm for a volume of 3.8 ml on the right and 2.7 x 1.1 x 2.7 cm for volume of 4.1 ml on the left. Small simple follicles are present bilaterally. Positive arterial blood flow is present in both ovaries. No adnexal mass is evident.

Is the presence of simple follicles a cause for concern given that my sister has PCOS?

Any information would be helpful.
