Hi. My Son Is 8 Yrs Old And Has Been

Hi. My son is 8 yrs old and has been having a fever for almost 48 hrs. Tylenol and Motrin help but only for a few hrs so I have been alternating the 2 every 3 hrs. He is only warm on his chest/ upper back/ neck/ and forehead, everywhere else his skin is cool to the touch and oral temp is 99°f. He has no other symptoms except fatigue. I took him to the pediatrician and she told me to just keep an eye out to see if any other symptoms appear and if it gets worse to take him to the emergency room and if the fever does not improve by Friday to bring him back to the office. I'm really concerned about him having a fever for so long and I have never seen a localized fever. I appreciate any insight.
