Hi There....15 Years Ago I Had Surgery For Pilonidal Abcess

Hi There....15 years ago I had surgery for pilonidal abcess - sense then I have only had soreness if sitting for long periods of time (ex: movie theater, road trip). Last fall, I went horeseback riding for the first time since surgery. Since then the soreness has increased, but it comes and goes. Last month the intensity picked up significant resulting in intense pain, inability to sit, draining/pus and i now have 2 visible "holes". First available doctor's appointment is october but they have put me on the call list if there are any cancellations. It intensifies with my monthly cycle. Now, there is little to no pain, no drainage, no swelling. Doctor today called me and wants to do a anoscopy and enema. Does this sound necessary?
