Hi, About 16 Years Ago, I Broke My Left Femur

Hi, about 16 years ago, I broke my left femur and had a rod and pins put in. Since then, my hip has always been "off" (stiffness and achiness when cold, too much exertion, etc.) but, about 6-8 months ago, the pain has increased so much that it's interfering with my everyday. For the last two weeks, my hip has been very stiff and I have pain from my hip down to my knee. And, my left knee is very achy feeling as well. I've tried icing and heating, massage, I even took a full day off from work and forced myself to stay off my feet. Nothing has helped and it's causing me to lose sleep at night as well as making it difficult for me at my jobs. (Child care provider, restaurant cook and Zumba instructor)
Could this be something more serious? Or is it a normal thing that's happening because I'm getting older?
Thanks!
