Hi, can I answer your health question? Please type your question here...
My ex-wife has been a heavy drinker over the last 12 plus years. Hospitalized 2 times in last couple of years for varices in esophogus and stomach ulcers. She bruises easier than anyone I have ever known or heard about. She's been to rehabilitation twice (only because of my request) over last 8 years and were heading to a 3rd rehab before she demonstrated zero desire to get well. Sadly it was then she became my "ex". I love her and want nothing more than her to be in better health. Since the last hospital stay she has significant swelling below her knee cap to her toes on one or both legs that come and goes. She has a very hyper-sensitive nature to any criticisms, honest feedback on given issues to help her improve on anything, cries excessively over the most minute detail or most general conversation subject matter for 10 plus years. All of these things are worsening quickly. She also has severe memory loss. Upon waking up every single day she goes in the bathroom and begins gagging so much that often she spits up or throws up. This is a very normal episode happening for at least the last 5, probably closer to 8 years. She is Irrational, unreasonable, and has basically become a compulsive liar. She's still drinking today and I would believe it's still large amounts. At the start of my divorce proceedings my lawyer and I elected to have her do a UA test at the first court hearing to check her alcohol levels even though it was at 9 am in the morning. I received written results from that test from the lab saying the cutoff for their alcohol test is at 250,000 nanograms and her result registered at over 1 million with no limitation/ceiling of how much over a 1 million she was. From the time the lab handed her a cup and asked for the urine sample, she waited 2.5 hours before providing the sample back to the lab. Her abdomen appears as though she's pregnant and significantly barreled out all the way around her body. They drained 2 full containers of fluid from her while at the hospital last time. She's 46 years old and drink of choice these days is vodka and diet tea by the small cups basically in large shot form and all alcohol is typically hidden and certainly while drinking it will always be in secret. Based on this small summary of facts provided, what do you think her next best step would be and I'm open to any recommendations as too approach her with the topic in hopes of getting it addressed, and soon. She has done a fabulous job of convincing most her problem is not a problem and goes to great lengths to ensure everything associated with her alcoholism is minimized. Her mom is and has been alcoholic for 30-40 years. Help?
