Hi, can I answer your health question? Please type your question here...
I have had a total colectomy with J pouch construction due to severe ulcerative colitis. My surgery was in 2007 and I have had no complications since surgery. I am of Islamic faith and with our month of Ramadan approaching, I am concerned regarding my health and the obligation to fast from dusk to dawn. With the long days, that means no food or drink for about 16 hours. Is this something that would be harmful to my health given that I don’t have a large intestine for fluid absorption? I have fasted in previous years, but my husband is concerned that I may be jeopardizing my health by doing so. Please advise. Thank you
