Hi, Is It Possible To Predict How Long Bone Spurs

Hi, is it possible to predict how long bone spurs on vertebrae take to grow? I had a RTA in March and initially had only mild pain and stiffness in my neck, but over the last 5 months it has now become severe. After an MRI I was advised I had a bone spur pressing on a nerve between disc 5 &6, also with damage to the discs. Is this something I may have had prior to my accident and the condition been accelerated?
I am a 52 year old male weighing approx 15 stone but was active, cycling approx 50 miles a week and participating in archery approx 6 hours per week. I now have a loss of feeling in my arm and shoulder and cannot pull the string on my bow.
