Hi, My Husband Has Been Suffering From Intense Lower Back

Hi, my husband has been suffering from intense lower back pain for 5 weeks. We have been seeing a chiropractor. X-rays show some degeneration of the lower spine, but nothing that should be causing this much pain. He all of a sudden got really cold and started shivering intensely for a good 15 minutes. What would have caused this?
