Hi My Mother Has Been Having Neck Pain So She

Hi my mother has been having neck pain so she went to the doctor and was told she has broad disc osteophyte complex and needs surgery. But she doesn't know if she wants/needs to have the surgery. What could happen if she didn't? Would it get worse if she doesn't get it done?
