Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi my son is 15 He broke his femur in 2014 in a motocross accident and because of his size they fixed him with a titanium rod n pins. He's recovery was very good, he was back playing rugby the following year and he has no problems with the leg or rod n pins... but still rides his motorbike at the track. Even though he has no complications he has always said he'd like to get the rod out mainly because of the risk of another break with his adventurous lifestyle. We have had a follow up appointment about getting his rod n pins removed and they explained that because he has grown so much about 2 inches growth plate above knee and even more at his hip area so the pins are now further up his thigh. My question is can his growth complicate the operation and how?? Thankyou Renee
