Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi my son was prem 26.7 weeks he had an IVH grade 4, extremely severe reflux which seemed to resolve and some ongoing issues with occasional constipation so he must eat daily bran to avoid severe constipation.Ryan has had a tonsillectomy and a lot of antibiotics and paracetamol and ibuprofen over the first five years of his life. Ryan had an uneventful scrotal hernia repair in the past. Now at just age eight he weighs 20.4 kilos as is approximately 124cm in height. He has a separated rectus muscle - about 2 cm and a small just obvious soft lump just above and to the left of his naval. For the past four months he has been complaining of a dull central abdominal pain which he says was on and off but is now there all the time with nausea at times no vomiting it does not stop him playing but occasionally he will complain it is there so he cannot do some thing (either things he would look forward too or not ). Bowels are normal colour, no problems with micturition. Appetite just a touch reduced. The pain does not affect his sleep. I have not given him any paracetamol. The only other thing I have noticed is that he complains of an itchy back not all the time just enough for me to notice and a least 5 times a week. Ryan has been seen by the consultant Paediatrician who has started him on a course of omeprazole and has asked to see him in a month, there has been no change but a worsening of the pain as it is now there all the time. Ryan was in bed this evening and asked me why it was not getting better and not too worry if he died as he loved me very much and has had a happy life and now I feel scared that there is something seriously wrong I do not think he is fibbing.
