Hi There! I Am Currently Writing A Novel, And Was

Hi there!
I am currently writing a novel, and was wondering whether a particular scene in it is realistic. A 12-year-old character has been taken to his local hospital by his foster parent (his mum has cancer and is too ill to look after him and his dad is not present) to see a doctor. A week before, this character's sister went into a coma and was taken to that hospital, so the character is there to discuss her condition. The doctor tells him that his sister's condition has worsened, and shows him and his foster parent a picture of her to show them how. The picture shows them that the sister's hair has fallen out, and all the colour has drained from her body. The doctor tells them that her vitals are all over the place as well, but why this is happening has yet to be determined. Would the doctor approach this situation in this way, or would they handle it differently.
Thanks for the help!
