Hi there. Not sure who to ask since everyone is asleep here in PA (1:25am). Will try to make this as short as possible. I'm 55 yrs. old, had back surgery on May 6th (L4 & L5 fusion.....hardware "installed"), released 2 days later, was taken to the ER on May 19th, took surgeon 4 hours to take care of really bad infection. He told us that the hardware had moved and I'd eventually have to have another back surgery. The 2nd surgery was completed on Dec. 28th, and this involved 2 surgeons. Removal of the prior hardware so that larger hardware and more sturdy apparatus could be placed. This also included surgery on the back as well as surgery to the front (innards were shifted so that the 1st surgeon could take care of the new hardware). The back stitches were removed a week or so ago, but the staples on the front are scheduled to be removed this Thursday. I'm fat so the 2nd surgeon put the blasted staples right where they would stay nice and moist in between the fat folds. I thought things would be fine until later this week. I started feeling pretty bad yesterday and my husband has helped me with the wound dressings. I've tried to keep track of my temperature and the highest I've noticed was a couple of hours ago at 100F (my "normal" temp is 97.6, so it's about a degree off of the usual normal temperature). The wound is red, hot and painful. I am not really sure what I should consider. Do I run to the ER? Should I just keep monitoring and contact the surgeon's office in the morning? I just know that I'm miserable and the Hydrocodon-Acetaminophen 5-35 is not doing SQUAT to help alleviate any of the pain. I just don't want to be heading to the ER for no real reason. Thanks so much!!!! - Lori
