How Can Dry Ear Canals With Crusting, Flaking And Irritation Be Treated?

I think following overuse of cotton buds years ago, the external part of my ear canals is dry, crusty and flaky - and irritating. I assume it can't be 'fixed' - I use oil or vaseline, but these give such temporary results. Anything else you can recommend? Thanks very much. Kerry.
