How Can Menstruation Be Controlled By Birth Control Pills?

i want to start birth control but i dont know how to tell my mom or my doctor. im only 14 years of age, and i want to get my period less then 12 times a year. they are about 7 days long each, and if i choose to become sexually active, i would like to be safe.
