How Can Pain In The Toes Due To An Injury Be Treated?

I fractured 4 meter tarsal bones in my foot last May, I am now walking without the aid of crutches, the toes are a little stiff but yesterday I tripped and my toes bent forward, I now find myself having problems walking again without crutches. The 4th toe at the base hurts but hurts mostly on the ball of the foot, there is no bruising or swelling and I can move the toes. I would appreciate your advice. Liz

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Liz,

I read your message and understood your problem.

Due to the previous trauma of foot, you fractured 4 metatarsal bones which are enough to cause a foot anatomy deformation.

My advice is that you may use crutches again to help you walking and take OTC painkillers for the pain.

A foot X-ray is needed to be done to see the bone positions and the tissues around.

Consult an orthopedic doctor and discuss the possibility to improve the foot functionality by surgery.

Hope this was helpful.
