How Can Persistent Scalp Roots Pain Be Treated?

My roots hurt very badly on my scalp, it hurts all the time and worse if I have tied it up tight, my hair is long and thick but even changing the length doesn't change anything. i have also used different shampoos but nothing changes. do you now what it could be?
