How Can Tonsillitis With Pain On Coughing Or Swallowing Be Treated?

Hi there, I have suspected tonsillitis, the doc has prescribed penicillin but the pain is unreal when I cough or swallow, neither paracetamol or ibuprofen touch it. I'm also producing secretions which send me into a coughing fit and sometimes vomiting. What else can I do?
