How Common Is A Closed Cervix After A Leep Procedure

How common is a closed cervix after a leep procedure and how is the cervix reopened? My gyno discovered this yesterday and was VERY surprised. I have been experiencing much discomfort/pressure in the cervical area last few weeks and knew something was up. When the doc was trying to open yesterday in office with a scalpel she couldn't get through... I am scheduled for a ultra sound in two weeks...thoughts?
